GRAMMY WINNING CD "SALT OF THE EARTH"

Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album!

Ricky Skaggs received his 13th Grammy award for "Salt of the Earth", the collaboration with country gospel legends The Whites.   This is the 2nd award for The Whites.

Check out the cover of the CD and see Ricky holding his Bourgeois which is featured on this great recording.  It's a great CD.

Here's what Skaggs Family Records has to say about their nomination:

"Ricky Skaggs caps a highly successful year today with yet another Grammy nomination.  The 12-time winner received a nomination for his sparsely beautiful collaboration with country gospel legends The Whites, 'Salt of the Earth,' out on his own Skaggs Family Records label.  The nomination comes in the Best Southern, Country, or Bluegrass Gospel Album category.

In February, Skaggs won his 12th Grammy for 'Instrumentals,' recorded with his ace backing band Kentucky Thunder.  That was followed by an eponymous collaboration with Bruce Hornsby.  The 12-song set was both a critical success, with Entertainment Weekly raving that "together, 'Ricky Skaggs and Bruce Hornsby' prove bluegrass' strictures were ripe for loosening after all," and a commercial success as the disc sat upon the top of Billboard's bluegrass album charts for weeks.

Skaggs appeared with Hornsby on the CBS Early Show and Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and recently performed with The Whites on the legendary public radio show A Prairie Home Companion.

'Salt of the Earth,' which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Bluegrass charts upon its release in September, is the first full length album collaboration between Ricky and The Whites (Ricky's wife Sharon White, sister-in-law Cheryl White and father-in-law Buck White).  The album displays Ricky and The Whites deep roots in the gospel tradition, all the while adding new songs sure to become part of the gospel canon.  Billboard said "the combination of great songs and heartfelt performances make this a project sure to be embraced by fans of country and Christian music."
