Bourgeois endorser BRYAN SUTTON has released a second solo CD for Sugar Hill Records, "Bluegrass Guitar". He is joined on this CD by some fine friends, Dennis Crouch, Tim Crouch, Tim O’Brien, and Dave Talbot. The CD features a great collection of traditional Bluegrass tunes along with a tune each by Bryan Sutton, Tim O'Brien and Bela Fleck.

Before he began recording, Bryan was looking for a new mahogany guitar and he and Dana Bourgeois discussed what it was he would like. What they ended up with was the guitar on the cover of Bryan's new CD "Bryan Sutton Bluegrass Guitar". Not only is it on the cover but it is the only guitar used on 11 of the 12 cuts on this great new CD.

Hear Bourgeois guitars on the fine new CD by Bourgeois endorser, Sean Watkins.

The second record from Nickel Creek guitarist Sean Watkins expands the sound of Nickel Creek’s Watkins-penned single “This Side” further into contemporary alt-pop—departing from the bluegrass-oriented instrumentation of his debut to merge latent jazz and classical influences with forays into keyboards, drum loops, and horns.

The new Bourgeois JOMC Deluxe - Floral Inlay and Madagascar Rosewood

Lewiston, ME – March 7, 2003 – Pantheon Guitars announces
the addition of the Bourgeois JOMC Deluxe to its line of premium
acoustic guitars. The JOMC Deluxe is built by hand in Pantheon's
Lewiston, Maine shop by Dana Bourgeois and his team.

JOM stands for JUMBO OM. The JOMC is an original body style
developed by Dana Bourgeois in the late 80's, in response to
players' requests for a mid-sized guitar with the balance and clarity
of an OM--but a bigger presence. The idea was simple: Start with the
OM outline, enlarge it a bit, play around with the curves, deepen the
sides, then add Dana's trademark cutaway. The result is Bourgeois'
most versatile guitar; larger than an OM, smaller than a Dreadnought,
capable of handling almost any playing style you can imagine,
and equally capable of operating in solo or ensemble situations.

The JOMC Deluxe features Madagascar rosewood back and sides, a
figured bearclaw sitka spruce top, triple bound curly maple body, fretboard and headstock binding, abalone rosette, floral inlay and gold Waverly tuners, Bourgeois snakehead headstock and side purfling. (List price: $4995.)

The new Acoustic Archtop - The A-350.

LEWISTON, ME – December 16, 2002 - Pantheon Guitars announces the addition of the Bourgeois A-350 to its line of premium acoustic guitars. The addition of this model follows the successful launch of the Bourgeois LC IV, a limited edition of twelve pieces. Like the LC IV, the A-350 is a carved, cutaway archtop that pairs the exceptional quality and workmanship of Bourgeois guitars with an outstanding price. Each piece is built by hand in Pantheon's Lewiston, Maine shop by Dana Bourgeois and his team of seven craftsmen. The elegant yet simply appointed, hand crafted instruments are individually signed by Dana Bourgeois.

Known primarily for his stellar flattop guitars, Dana built his first archtop in 1982. Although production of these guitars has been limited, Bourgeois archtops are loved and played by various artists including Darren Vincent, guitarist with Ricky Skaggs. Dana says: "I have always loved the sound of the acoustic archtop -guys like Eddie Lang and Carl Kress pulled great tone from those guitars. The archtop guitar and modern steel string guitar have common beginnings and have always influenced the development of each other. I am really excited about this guitar because I believe the archtop can offer guitarists one of the richest tone spectrums available with six strings!"

The Bourgeois A-350 Archtop is voiced and braced to be an acoustic instrument, and at 16 ¾" x 3", it is sized for a balance of tone, power and ease of playing. Traditional appointments include a solid Premium Spruce top and solid Premium Curly Maple back and sides. The instrument features a Bourgeois snakehead headstock and a three-piece Curly Maple neck. Dana Bourgeois & John Thigpen went to the Portland Civic Center on 11/22/02 to see our friends Nickel Creek. John says they were GREAT...and that they received a standing ovation from about 8000 fans.

We are extremely pleased to announce that both Sean Watkins and Chris Thile play Bourgeois Guitars. We built mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile a guitar last year and he loves it. He has been playing it ever since.

Look for solo CD's next year from Chris and Sean. Sean's last solo CD, Let it Fall, was stellar and he, of course, will be playing his Bourgeois guitars (he recently received an Vintage OM to use for backup) on the new CD due out in the spring. We are also really happy to learn that Chris played his Bourgeois guitar on his new solo recording- we cannot wait to hear it!

Question:How do you pronounce Bourgeois?
    Answer:  BUR-jwah.

We have to confess that we have all had trouble trying to pronounce the last name of our esteemed luthier, Dana Bourgeois.   We've been bugging Dana to come up with a simple phonetic pronunciation.  Dana asked if we would like the French, Acadian, Cajun or American version....we've decided to pass along the American version.

This is what we came up with:  "BUR-jwah" with the accent on the first syllable.  Any linguists out there with a better idea, let us know!

We hope this will alleviate the problem of going in to your favorite shop, pointing to a rack of guitars and saying, "uh, I want that one."

Bourgeois (BUR-jwah)...Ask for it by Name.

Vintage Dreadnought  FOR SALE at Acoustic Outfitters, Stratham, NH. FINISHED GUITAR

I asked Dana Bourgeois to tell me what he thought about these sets of Brazilian back & sides because sometimes a picture doesn't really tell the whole story. Here is what he told me:

" These Brazilian sets were very nicely sawn from older, well-seasoned flitches. As a result they are well quartered, well-matched, and incredibly stable. Additionally they have the ideal weight for that classic Brazilian tone--not to heavy, not too light. The overall appearance can be characterized as tightly arrayed pencil-fine black lines against a rich, golden-tan background, underlaid by a subtle curly figure. This is unique, tasty stuff, the likes of which I have never before seen, and do not expect to see again."

The Bourgeois D-150 is beloved by Ricky Skaggs, Bryan Sutton, Dan Tyminski and a host of other fine guitarists around the country. Brazilian adds to the brilliance of Dana' Vintage Dreadnought. For more on the Bourgeois D-150, click here
